Many Jeep Wrangler owners plan on removing the tops as summer approaches. The ability to do this is one of the many perks of owning a Jeep Wrangler, but you can even go one step further by remove the doors as well. If you’re interested, find out how to take the doors off your Jeep Wrangler below.
Step 1: Have the Proper Tools
If you are a Jeep Wrangler owner who wants to remove the doors, then you will need the proper tools in order to do so. To remove a Wrangler’s doors, you will need a set of torque wrenches. The added benefit of having a set of torque wrenches is that you can remove everything from your Wrangler with these tools.
Step 2: Remove the Lock Nut
The next step is to take that torque wrench and remove the lock nut under the Jeep Wrangler door hinges. Once you loosen the lock nut on the door hinge, you will be able to twist it by hand. The locknuts are there to ensure nobody steals your Wrangler door, so keep them in a safe place for when you do decide to put your doors back on.
Step 3: Unplug the Power Switch
Now you will need to unplug the power switch that is used for the windows and door locks. Make sure your window is rolled down all the way before you pull the plug. This will make it easier to remove the door because it will be easier to pull off and grab.
Step 4: Remove the Strap
After unplugging the power switch, you will now move into the interior of your Jeep Wrangler to the inside of your door. On the bottom right of the door, there will be a strap that you will have to unhook and then remove completely.
Step 5: Remove the Door
Once you have completed the first four steps, you will finally be able to remove the door from your Jeep Wrangler. To remove the door safely, have one hand on the bottom and another on the side, then lift it up and out. Repeat the steps for your remaining doors and find a safe storage space for them.
After learning how to remove the doors from your Jeep Wrangler, you are now ready to go on your off-roading adventure.
