The Dos and Don’ts of Driving Your Jeep at the Beach

The Dos and Don’ts of Driving Your Jeep at the Beach

It’s finally summertime, which means warm sandy beaches will open for everyone to enjoy. You can have fun driving your Jeep on the beach next to the beautiful blue waves if you’re looking for an engaging activity to do. To prepare you for this experience, we share the dos and don’ts of driving your Jeep at the beach.

Watch the Tide

High tides tend to sneak up on people, so it’s vital to keep an eye on the water. A great way to ensure your vehicle is safe from the water is to look at the tide times online or in a local newspaper. One of the best times to drive your Jeep at the beach is during the two hours when the tide is low. So, be sure to keep that in mind when planning your trip.

Prepare the Vehicle

The terrain on the beach is very different than the road. Therefore, it makes sense that you’ll need to prepare your Jeep for the experience. Since you’ll drive in the sand, your tires will need a firm grip on the ground. One way to achieve this is to reduce the tire pressure slightly. The pressure should be around 15 to 20 PSI. Another one of the dos and don’ts of driving your Jeep at the beach is to use your four-wheel drive. On bumpy land, the four-wheel drive allows you to have more control over the vehicle. So, it’s perfect for the beach.

Know the Laws

Some beaches have laws against people driving on the sand. The laws vary depending on the particular beach. Consequently, it’s best to research the rules and regulations before getting out on the sand. This is the first step you need to do before your Jeep reaches the beach.

Don’t Park Close to the Water

To stay safe, remember to avoid parking close to the water. You never know when the tide may rise quickly and unexpectedly. Getting stuck in the sand is not fun, and you want to avoid it at all costs.

Avoid the Wrack Line

The wrack line forms from the debris and other wildlife material that washes up from the ocean. Since it provides necessary food and nutrition for wildlife, you should avoid driving and parking on it. If you need to park, the best place to be is in parallel to the water and the middle of the beach.

Driving at the beach is a fun and unique experience, especially if you prepare the vehicle and add a few Jeep Wrangler JK accessories. At AM Off-Road, we provide various Jeep accessories and everything you ready your vehicle for your summer vacation at the beach.
