The Best Trucks for Off-Roading in the Wilderness

The Best Trucks for Off-Roading in the Wilderness

Even though Jeeps are popular, they aren't the only off-road vehicles. As a matter of fact, many off-roaders enjoy exploring trails in their trucks. These off-road trucks are tough, durable, and able to handle even the rockiest trails. Additionally, their wheels have excellent traction, which comes in handy on some of the more difficult routes. There are all kinds of off-road trucks from well-known manufacturers, such as Ford, Chevy, RAM, Nissan, GMC, and Toyota. Although there are plenty of off-road trucks out there, some go above and beyond expectations. In no particular order, here are the best trucks for off-roading in the wilderness.

1. Ford F150 Raptor

With a Ford F150 Raptor, you can race along smooth trails with ease. Due to its light weight, the F150 Raptor drives quickly, so it’s a great choice for high-speed off-roading. Additionally, its excellent suspension allows you to travel over large obstacles without damaging your vehicle. Additionally, this particular truck has an excellent 360-degree camera, so you can clearly see the trail all around you. With proper maintenance and a few Ford F150 aftermarket accessories, your off-road truck will be ready to tackle any type of rough terrain.

2. Chevy Silverado Trail Boss

The Chevy Silverado is a popular truck for both on and off-road excursions. Its tough exterior, superb suspension, and durable tires all allow it to withstand difficult terrain. Depending on the Chevy Silverado year and model, you will have a V6 or a V8 engine to provide plenty of power. This off-road Chevy is called the Trail Boss, and you can find it with LT or custom trims.

3. RAM TRX

If you are an off-road enthusiast, you have to drive a RAM TRX. This strong, powerful truck has the ability to tackle even the longest trails. It has a full-time 4WD (in fact, there is no 2WD), and 702 horsepower. Many owners claim that the RAM TRX far surpasses the Ford Raptor 450, a vehicle that has many similar features. Although this TRX is an excellent off-road vehicle, it does not have a traction-adding device on the front axle, so it’s not the best choice for rock crawling. But keep in mind that it does have an electronic locking differential in the rear axle, and 13 inches of suspension in the front and 14 inches in the back. Overall, the RAM TRX is a great off-road vehicle to use for long trips that don’t involve a ton of rock crawling.

4. GMC Sierra AT4

The GMC Sierra AT4 is very similar to the Chevy Silverado Trail Boss, and it’s known for its smooth drive both on and off the road. It comes with a 5.3-liter V8 engine, and a strong chassis that allows you to travel smoothly over rocky terrain. It’s also a full-size pickup, so you’ll have plenty of room in the back for all your gear, supplies, and equipment.

5. Toyota Tacoma TRD

Since 2015, the Toyota Tacoma TRD has been and still is a popular choice for any off-roader. With its 10-inch all-terrain tires and electronically locking rear differential, this truck is a great choice for moderate off-roading. Additionally, Tacomas are known for their reliability and durability, so you can count on your vehicle to withstand the trails and last for many years.

6. RAM 1500 Rebel

RAM has a couple of great off-road trucks, but one of the most popular models is the 1500 rebel. It has an upgraded air suspension that allows it to be taller than any other RAM model, and the tires are extremely thick and durable to withstand jagged rocks and trails. It also has a powerful 5.7-liter V8 engine with 395 horsepower. Additionally, many off-roaders believe it’s one of the best-looking trucks due to its large and prominent exterior.

7. Nissan TITAN PRO-4X

To tackle large hills and difficult trails with ease, drive a Nissan TITAN PRO-4X. You can easily accelerate up hills and winding trails with its 5.6-liter V8 engine that has 400 horsepower. It has 4WD, all-terrain tires, hill descent control, heavy-duty skid plates, Bilstein coilover shocks, and heavy-duty skid plates. With a Nissan TITAN PRO-4X, you can drive off-road any time and any place.

8. Chevy Colorado

When you look at the Chevy Colorado, you can immediately see that it’s made to travel off-road. Its exterior is large and compact, and its tall off-road tires add to its rugged appearance. This particular model has an optimized suspension that is specifically designed for off-roading. Also, this Chevy has excellent 4WD, and locking front and rear differentials.

9. GMC Canyon AT4

The GMC Canyon AT4 has a very high towing capacity with a maximum of 7,700 lb. It spots an 8-speed automatic transmission, 4WD, V6 engine with 308 horsepower, and a locking rear differential. Additionally, it has an excellent suspension, which is perfect for climbing inclines or maneuvering over uneven terrain. If you enjoy camping, canoeing, or other outdoor activities and need a vehicle that can tow your equipment, the GMC Canyon AT4 is your best bet.

10. Ford Ranger Tremor

And last, but certainly not least, is the Ford Ranger Tremor. The Ford Ranger Tremor is a midsized truck that has 32-inch tires, 10-speed automatic transmission, and a locking rear differential. Many off-roaders say that driving this truck is easier than you might think, and it feels as if you are driving an SUV rather than a bulky truck. So, if you want a midsized truck with power and great maneuverability, consider the Ford Ranger Tremor for your next off-road adventure.

These are just a few of the best trucks for off-roading in the wilderness. With one of these well-known vehicles, you can travel over even the most difficult and uneven terrain smoothly without damaging your truck. For some extra fun, try mudding and rock crawling in one of these trucks! Be sure to use caution if it's your first time driving a truck off-road.
